Behind the Book

From Journal to Picture Book

This book began in the most ordinary way: me, in my favorite chair, writing in my journal after a tough day.

That moment of writing (raw, honest, and unfiltered) evolved into a rhyming story. A kitty with big feelings appeared on the page, and I can enjoy her now as not just a character. She is me. And she is every child (and every adult) who’s ever felt overwhelmed by their own emotions.

Building the Book, One Brave Step at a Time

Turning that story into a book meant inviting others into the process. I chose people I trust: an illustrator, an editor, a marketing manager, and a book  designer. Each one brought their own creativity and care to the project.

There were vulnerable moments. Sharing something so personal with others. Waiting for their feedback. Giving feedback back. It was emotional work layered on top of emotional content.

And there were hard parts. Late nights. Long edits. Learning the ropes of publishing. The fear of putting something so personal out into the world.

But there was also joy. Watching my experience come to life in the illustrations. Seeing the team bring their best to this very human, very real story. I have learned much about the value of releasing control. And I have watched the project become its best self through collaboration.

What It Took (and What It Gave Back)

Creating Big Feels wasn’t easy, but it was meaningful. It asked me to trust the process, trust my voice, and trust the team around me. It reminded me that big feelings aren’t something to hide from, they’re something to honor.

Now I get to hold this finished book in my hands and offer it to others.

It’s not perfect. It’s honest. And I hope it helps you feel just a little more seen.

Thank you for being part of the journey.
